Bears! oh my!

Its time for NFL training camps. Reminds me of the time I met “my Bear”
I don’t know my hubby and I started talking about this the other day, but we did.
And as much as I will never be a Bears fan…I will always remember “my Bear.” Although I can’t remember his name! lol

Many moons ago, the 80's (gasp!) when I was single and stupid, the Chicago Bears used to hold their training camp at UW Platteville. Not so far from here.

My friend and I decided to go down to the bars one night during training camp to see if we could see any Bears.

Our first stop was “The Patio,” a little bar with a big reputation among the college crowd.

Mr Tall-Dark-and-Handsome guy asked me to dance.

My Bear (MB): I am with the Bears

Me: Yeah right, all the guys here are telling girls they are with the Bears.
(although one of my brothers friend’s was there, he was using “I am a scout for the Honey Bears” as his pick up line.)

MB: I will prove it. He took my hand and introduced me to many Bears. Most I had no clue who they were, being the good cheesehead that I am! I was impressed by Jim McMahon and Walter Payton, though.

Me: Ok I believe you now.

I also met his roommate. (I don't remember his name either, know they both didn’t make it very far before being cut from the team.)

After talking and a few more dances…

MB: I am going to have a party at bartime back at my dorm. I want you to come.

Me : I wouldn’t get past security.

MB: No problem I will give you my key.

Later his roommate (RM) came up to me.
RM: How long do you guys need?

Me: (yep totally clueless) huh?

RM: How much time do you guys want alone?

Me : I thought it was a party?

RM: Hon, you are the only one he invited to his party.

ME: (thinking to myself I am soooo stupid)

I gave the roommate back the key. Found my friend and we headed for home.

I would have loved to see the look on MB’s face when all the other people that my friend and I invited to the party showed up. :o)

Looking back, I have to say for the most part it was a really good night. I had fun. I was fawned over and flattered for a couple hours. Smitten! And since I will never know for sure...I can always believe he was disappointed I didn't show up. LOL.

quote for 7-27-06

I was looking for some Anniversary card inspiration and came across this one, cute.

If love is blind, why is lingerie so popular?

Dad-in-law

My hubby and I were out for a walk Tuesday night. It was hot and incredibly sticky, so we strolled up to the ridge to enjoy the breeze.

Coming back down the driveway, we met our son driving up. He pulled up to us and said (Grandpa's boss) called, he couldn't get a hold of grandma. They took grandpa in the hospital by rescue squad. He collapsed at work, think it may be a heart attack

Well that's enough to make my own heart skip a beat. Hubby jumped in the car and they went to find grandma (She was home, just had a been on the phone).

Once they got to the hospital they decided it it was not a heart attack (thank God). He was overheated and dehyrated. A night of IVs should take care of that. But upon some more blood tests they decided he was also anemic. They kept him overnight, needing to find the reason for that.

So Wednesday morning, Nurse #1: We need a sample..so when you go, let us know. Ok easy enough right? But when that time came...press the call button for the nurse. Nurse #2 comes in: Oh we don't need that. Go ahead. Needless to say they did need that. You can bet Nurse #2 got an earful from #1! Nurse #1 comes back and says: We will just have everything ready for you, so after you go. Let us know. You would think that would have taken care of it. (this is where my hubby smacks himself in the head while telling me this story) Nurse #3 come in: We don't need that. And then flushes the sample away.

Holy Cats. My dad-in-law could be bleeding internally. I don't know if the staff of our little local hospital is overworked, incompetent, or just a bunch of idiots. But I am sure not impressed with their level of care.

After I heard all this, I told my husband I think its time for him to come home if thats the way it is. A few minutes later the phone rang. At least he got to sleep in his own bed last night.

He will return to his doctor's office today for some more tests. Please pray all goes well and he gets some answers.

Update: but not really. Nothing new. More tests. No answers. But he is looking better.

failure

Yep I know this is old news, but I have been busy!

I cannot believe this loser was re-elected.

Maybe GW was frustrated with Isreal/Lebanon/Hezbollah, but swearing about it only shows his total immaturity.

His "massage" of German Chancellor Angela Merkel. Too bad she didn't elbow him where it hurts. I am guessing any intelligent man knows you don't do that to a woman...let alone the German Chancellor.

And he finally used his veto pen. Stem cell research could help millions.

He stated using embyos (that would be destroyed anyway) "crosses a moral boundary."

Doesn't war cross a moral boundary too?

Clueless.

Did you know, that if you go to google.com. type in the word "failure" and hit "I'm feeling lucky, you will see I am not the only one that feels this way.

Wrinkles should merely indicate where smiles have been. ~Mark Twain

I mentioned in an email to a friend today, my blog is neglected. Poor blog.

Her email was just the ray of sunshine I needed in my dreary day. One of the guys from work went on vacation, and left the poor replacement guy hanging. No directions, no information on sales, truck not loaded. So him(replacement guy) and I were scrambling to get him on the road. I don't think the regular guy is dumb. But he sure lacks common sense and consideration.

I spent the weekend working on a baby scrapbook for a co-worker (kind of a co-worker. she is office manager of one of the other stores. We IM a lot. I will be glad when she is back from maternity leave). Anyway, the album turned out pretty cute. Almost too cute to give away. I have a bunch of cards to make too. Those are my favorite project. I get to use all my pretty paper, lots of ribbon, I should dig out my rubber stamps for a few too.

Thought the whole family would go see Cars tonight. Ended up that just the kids went. I am buying it when its on PPV!

Without the rain there would be no rainbow

My daughter took this rainbow picture a few minutes ago.

I have never seen a rainblow split in the middle like this.

There is also a faint rainbow above the first.

Cool huh?

random thoughts on Friday

*Last weekend's wedding was beautiful. Cannot help thinking what they spent on that day would have made a nice down payment on a house.

*Took the kids car in for new brakes yesterday, back tire was smoking...I am not mechanical...but guessing thats not a good sigh. For $457 you would think they could have gotten it right the first time. Will take it back Monday.

*Gas in $3.14 a gallon here. Ya think the Amish are laughing at us yet?

*Got the estimate from the orthodontist for the youngest this week. Ouch. I think that was more painful then braces will be.

*All my post are about $. I am seriously needing to win the lottery! lol

Have a happy weekend!

Happy Birthday Miss A

Nineteen years ago today I became a mom for the first time.

(really...I can't be old enough to be the mom of a 19 year old can I??)

Where did the years go? Wasn't so long ago we were shopping for crayons and a backpack for kindergarten. Now we have a list of college must-haves.

She has grown into an awesome and beautiful young lady.

Happy Birthday!

If you don't like something change it; if you can't change it, change the way you think about it. ~Mary Engelbreit

Yeah! Friday!

Its hot and humid. Wisconsin summer weather. The kind of day I drink so much water my stomach hurts. Sounds like this warm spell may be sticking around for a good week. I like crisp autumn days so much better!

This day in history 7-14-1987 Oliver North conclused his Iran/Contra testimony. I watched a lot of that. It was before dish tv and I was in labor with my daughter. I was in labor 80+ hours with her, I watched tv and walked, went to the hospital a couple times. They would tell me I was slow and to go home. Do you know how cranky a hot, tired, very pregnant woman can be? lol

Happy Birthday today to Opie!

This is my mom.
Today would have been her birthday.
I miss her very much.
If you are lucky enough to still have your mom. Tell her you love her today.

A peacefulness follows any decision, even the wrong one. ~Rita Mae Brown

Not so exciting day off.

Went to Walmart. They dont carry my favorite duck double sided scrapbook tape anymore. I was bummed. As a scrapbooker/cardmaker that is allergic to adhesive...those little tape-roller-thingies are a necessity!

Its hot here today, and sticky humid. Poor Mitzi, our Siberian Husky, sucks to be her when its hot. A little while ago she was standing by her water bowl crying. I thought it was empty...but nope..it was full! But there was a big earthworm in it! So I got her some fresh water with some ice cubes in it. She is (sort of) happy now.

My sister-in-law just called. She is taking my youngest daughter for a few days. They are going to the Dells....water park heaven! Since I am not too thrilled to go to the water park, and my sister-in-law thinks it will be a blast to take her daughter and mine...I could not refuse! My brother lucked out when he met her. She is a canser survivor and such a sweet person.

I got the J's dress done. And, if I can say so myself, it turned out pretty stinkin cute! Afghan. That's another story. I am probably 1/3 done. Buts its to sticky to crochet. I should have work on it in January!

I have a request of all my blogging friends. My cousin is facing a very difficult time. Please keep her in your prayers.

happy things...continued

Can you tell this day is slow? This is post #4

I need more to do at work, a good book, or a life!

I am adding to my "things that make me happy list" ...ok...maybe not thrilled...but things I like:

1. Gift baskets. I have been making little gifts seem lots more special lately. Creative thinking, some quick trips to the dollar store, and a huge roll of cellophane are making my gifts look pretty cool (if i say so myself). Maybe I should sell them.

2. Mr Clean Magic Erasers. Have you used these thing. They take the gunk off the crock pot. Almost makes cleaning fun. I said ALMOST!

3. Oldies radio stations. Although I don't think the songs they play are really all that old...but I know them all. And sing along.

4. Yahoo instant messanger. Its fun to chat with friends, hook up for games, and the smileys are the best. We have AOL messanger at work and the smileys are just lame.

4a. The stealth setting on yahoo instant messanger. Nice to be invisable!

5. Cranberry Home interiors candles. They smell so good!

6. Homemade Chocolate chip cookies. Yum. Nothing from a bag can compare.

7. drugstore.com Stuff is cheaper than my local walmart, shipping is free, and it comes to me!

8. Got2b in your face. (get it from #7 here.) Smells good. Makes my skin feel good. and not too pricey!

9. Almay Purple Amethyst Mascara. If you would have told me three weeks ago I would be loving purle mascara I would have never believed it. But it really brings oout the green in my hazel eyes.

10. 300+ thread count sheets. What can I say? I am a sheet snob.

11. Sewing. I am almost finished with a sundress for my daughter. Its cool making it all come together. And it is so stinkin cute! We have a wedding this weekend and I did not want to by my 11 year old a skanky outfit!

I am sure this list will be continued. I just can't think of anything else right now.

:O)

LiFest 2006

My oldest daughter just returned from LiFest 2006. She went with 85,000 other people!

But her little corner of it all was the church youth group and a handful of leaders. Amazing how they can get on each others nerves after just a few days of camping, mosquito bites and sunburn. They had fun tho. The stage was close to their campsite. And the port-a-potties were close enough to be handy....but no so close to be gross!

(I seriously think our youth leader needs to grow up,quit gossiping and playing favorites. Not the exactly setting the best example)

My daughter was so excited to see Relient K, Audio Adrenaline, Newsboys, to name a few. There were 150 bands, speakers and comedians. She got some good pictures. And some great memories!

God only cries for the living,'Cause it's the living that are left to carry on

Investigators say the driver missed a turn, crashed into several trees and went down a steep embankment this morning.

All three people were ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. It's not clear if they were wearing seat belts.

They said on the radio all three were 16, on tv it said all three were 17. Doesn't matter does it? They did not know who was driving. That doesn't matter either.

Two of the boys were from my home town. The other from a neighboring town. I recognize the last names. Very sad. Keep the families and these small towns in your prayers this week.

:(

Father/Daughter

I heard this song on the radio this morning....would be the perfect father/daughter dance wouldn't it?

I Loved Her First
Heartland

Look at the two of you dancing that way
Lost in the moment and each others face
So much in love your alone in this place
Like there's nobody else in the world
I was enough for her not long ago
I was her number one
She told me so
And she still means the world to me
Just so you know
So be careful when you hold my girl
Time changes everything
Life must go on
And I'm not gonna stand in your way

But I loved her first and I held her first
And a place in my heart will always be hers
From the first breath she breathed
When she first smiled at me
I knew the love of a father runs deep
And I prayed that she'd find you someday
But it still hard to give her away
I loved her first

How could that beautiful women with you
Be the same freckle face kid that I knew
The one that I read all those fairy tales to
And tucked into bed all those nights
And I knew the first time I saw you with her
It was only a matter of time

But I loved her first and I held her first
And a place in my heart will always be hers
From the first breath she breathed
When she first smiled at me
I knew the love of a father runs deep
And I prayed that she'd find you someday
But its still hard to give her away
I loved her first

From the first breath she breathed
When she first smiled at me
I knew the love of a father runs deep
Someday you might know what I'm going through
When a miracle smiles up at you
I loved her first

Every evening I turn my worries over to God. He's going to be up all night anyway. ~Mary C. Crowley

I have been AWOL

Did anyone notice?

Monday was kind of a rough day. One of our kittens was in pretty bad shape. Several calls to the neighbor/vet, eye drops and medication proved to be fruitless. She died that evening. My youngest felt so bad. She wiped her tears and said, "Its ok, she will be a good kitty for Grandma in heaven, Grandma needs a kitten too." That's when I lost it, because Monday was also the 5 year anniversary of my mom's death :(

Tuesday, the 4th, was pretty uneventful. Went to the fireworks in a neighboring town.

The rest of the week I have been trying to figure out what day it is...lol

My niece is getting married next weekend. I have been making a sundress for my daughter...I waited tile the last minute to find her something to wear...very dumb on my part. I also started an afghan for niece A...its too hot to crochet on July!

I see Rush Limbaugh was cleared of charges in his Viagra incident. Limbaugh's psychiatrist had agreed to have his name placed on the Viagra bottle, rather than that of his patient, "in an effort to avoid potentially embarrassing publicity." I don't think that plan worked!
