Ugh! Double Ugh!

We were planning a little mini-vacation next week.

Notice the word WERE.

Our credit card expires today.

New one never arrived.

Called Capital One.

They had to report it as lost/stolen.

So no credit card.

We are probably the only people in the country that carry one credit card.

Grrrrr!

**Update: Seems as though my daughter cannot get off work anyway. She asked for the week off, but her supervisor scheduled her anyway(and they wonder why they cant keep help). We are going to plan some day trips (she doesn't have to be to work til 3 most days). There are lots of fun things to do close to home. We just need to set aside time to do them. Besides, we will save a lot of $ if we sleep in our own beds!

What fun things do you have planned for this summer?

A nation that doesn't honor it veterans has no conscience

This weekend isn't about an extra day off work.

Or painting your living room,

Or a BBQ.

It is about respect.

Honor those veterans still alive

by remembering those who are not.

Subpoena

This way-too-cool-to-take-the-shades-off-inside-dude came strutting into the store today and asked to see my boss.

He isn't here.
He is hardly ever here.
Heck in a month he might spend 2 hours total at the actual store.

Oh a nice subpoena for Mr Boss?

He would not give it to me, which is odd, because this lawsuit has been going on for a while and other servers had no problem handing them over to me.

So he left, a half hour later he was back.

Seems he did not want to make the 95 mile trip back again tomorrow.

My boss wouldn't be there tomorrow either.

I am responsible to make sure he gets it.

Don't worry I will get it to him.

(And he better remember to go testify!)

Then when I was leaving town....

who was flollowing me? the way-too-cool-to-take-the-shades-off-inside-dude.

Weird

MADD

I heard something the other day that really ticked me off.

An area man was just convicted of his 6th drunk driving offense.

His sentence is one year in the county jail with work release.

Geesh! What is wrong with the judge is this case?

Apparently this drunk driver hasn't killed anybody yet.

Am I the only one that thinks this guy got off way too easy?

Baccalaureate 2006

My daughter's class had their Baccalaureate last night.

An ecumenical service for the graduating class of 2006.

I always enjoy hearing from the different clergy in our community.

(especially the two local Lutheran pastors, some days I think of converting)

One spoke of Christianity as a row boat. Moving forward, but looking back. Keeping an eye on traditions and history. I love this analogy!

One of the classmates gave a short prayer. He was the only one to mention S&T. He said "Thank you God for letting us know then for a little while" It was simple. It was sweet and very nice. A real kleenex moment.

When I have mentioned Baccalaureate I get some "??" is it that uncommon?

There is a bit of insanity in dancing that does everybody a great deal of good. ~Edwin Denby

This is too funny.

The Evolution of Dance

How many do you remember doing?

Grandmas hold our tiny hands for just a little while, but our hearts forever. ~Author Unknown

They say that the winds are the spirits that surround us. Today would have been my grandmother's birthday.

Today it is a windy and glorious here.

A great day for (finally) getting bedding on the line.

I love living here.

Carter tried; Reagan failed

This is from madison.com:

Faced with soaring gas prices in 1979, President Jimmy Carter proposed that the United States embark upon a New Deal-style initiative to secure the country's energy independence.
Carter's was the road not taken, but as gas prices hit new highs and as those who once criticized him wring their hands about the nation's predicament, it is important to recall that the current conundrum could have been avoided.

Read the complete editorial here.

Think about this everytime you pull into the gas station.

You don't choose your family. They are God's gift to you, as you are to them. ~Desmond Tutu

If roses grow in heaven Lord,
please pick a bunch for me.
Place them in my mother’s arms
and tell her they're from me.
Tell her that I love and miss her,
and when she turns to smile,
place a kiss upon her cheek
and hold her for a while.
Because remembering her is easy,
I do it every day.
But there's an ache within my heart,
that will never go away.

What kind of cookie are you?

You Are a Chocolate Chip Cookie

Traditional and conservative, most people find you comforting.
You're friendly and easy to get to know. This makes you very popular - without even trying!

Those are looking good this morning, its so damp and cold today, perfect cookie baking weather. I actually saw it snow yesterday. In May! Crazy!

Let me know what kind of cookie you are.

You will always be lucky if you know how to make friends with strange cats. ~Proverb

This little sweetie strayed to a family friend's house.

They could not keep her.

I can never say no to a cat.

But she needs a name.

She is joining Bubbles, Mack, Fluffer-butt, and Squeaker.

(By the way, Squeaker is the mom of two black and white kittens this week. She has a history of being not such a good mom. So we are hoping she takes care of these. She had them in a bucket, hooked on a high nail in the grainery. Dumb cat! No pictures of them yet.)

Any suggestions for a name for our new cat?

Update: My youngest daughter went with the name "Smudge"
Squeaker did not mother her kittens. :(

Remember, we all stumble, every one of us. That's why it's a comfort to go hand in hand. ~Emily Kimbrough

I have posted several times about tragedies my daughter's class has faced.

Word has spread through high school and the mom-grapevine yet another thing.

One of the senior's moms has a large tumor behind her eye. No one seemed to know any more than that. Another mom has asked each senior to bring a bead to string together for her, a little token, just to remind her we are thinking of her and praying for her.

You can say a prayer for her too, and her family. And for these seniors, that have faced so much in their young lives.

Looking around the room at the Senior banquet last night. It was hard seeing the kids there, the ones wishing their mom or dad were alive to be there. And harder still to think of the two girls should have been there, too.

To be overcome by the fragrance of flowers is a delectable form of defeat. ~Beverly Nichols

I spent a lot of time back and forth to my clothesline yesterday. But the lilacs are starting to bloom, so it smelled fantastic. I had to watch out for the bumble bees though! If you look close you can see one in the picture :)

Anything blooming you your back yard now?

The Butterknife Project

Wednesday night we had our annual Mother-Daughter Banquet at Church.

We had two speakers for out program that evening. Both had spent some time doing mission work for Hurrican Katrina Victims.

The first was a a perky little red-head who, along with 6 of her college friends, were inspired to take off to New Orleans for a week in January. Not knowing what they were in for, they hooked up with another church group and gutted houses.

The second was a member of our church. She and her husband are retired and spend their vactions every year on mission trips. (For several years, they took any teengers that were willing to work with them. ! My kids worked their butts off and had a blast doing things like fixing up church camps and cleaning up tornado damage...anyway.....). J&J went to Buloxi Mississippi. She said a little about the work they did while there. Then she said whenever they mentioned they were from Wisconsin, people got a huge smile said "Are you the Butterknife project?" In the few weeks they were there, the Butterknife project was mentioned over and over. When they got home they had to find out what it was all about. So she shared:
The Butterknife name comes from the only personal possession homeowners Chuck and Kathy were able to salvage from their house after Hurricane Katrina, a single silver butterknife.

Its really a heartwarming story. When you have a few minutes Check out the story here and pictures here. And from Billy Graham's magazine here.

quotes

About a year ago I started blogging.

I had intended to start each post with a favorite quote.

Here are my first ten. Revisited.

Friends are chocolate chips in the cookie of life!

We Americans have no commission from God to police the world. ~Benjamin Harrison, address to Congress, 1888

I am beginning to learn that it is the sweet, simple things of life which are the real ones after all. - Laura Ingalls Wilder

On the road of life, memories are your rearview mirror. Check it often!

I don't care how poor a man is; if he has family, he's rich. Colonel Potter, M*A*S*H

No act of kindness is ever wasted

Faith is believing in things when common sense tells you not to. ~Miracle on 34th Street

Well done is better than well said.

Worrying is like a rocking chair, it gives you something to do, but it gets you nowhere. ~Glenn Turner

You give but little when you give of your possessions. It is when you give of yourself that you truly give.

What is your favorite quote?

Trace Atkins

While looking for pictures for the upcoming graduation party, I found some of Trace Atkins. My husband and I went to see him in concert b.b. (before bloggin).

He put on a good show. (Too loud for my middle aged ears) He has so many hits and a silly sense of humor.

I remember him playing with his hair a lot, women in the audience screaming for that. I don't get it...lol

What was the last concert you went to?

SPLAT

My son is planning for this trip to North Carolina aleady.

Youth 2007

It is a gathering of UM youth from across the country held every 4 years.

In case you are wondering, SPLAT stands for:

Seek, the truth and ways in which God can use you.
Pray, to God for guidance on your faith journey.
Learn, about ways you can make a difference in this world.
Act, on your faith using what gifts God has blessed you with.
Teach, by example when you return to your communities.

I am guessing it is a whole lot of fun too.

(also means more fundraising...groaning from all UMC moms)

Ever been to North Carolina? What are the "must sees"?
