State Music Ensemble

My kids are competing at the state level with their handbell chior today. I lucked out, it's not to far from home. Only about a 40 minute drive, so we are taking off in the rain, and hope we can find the right building when we get to the campus! The kids went on the bus. Apparently band geek bus rides are lots of fun.

**Update**
They recieved a first on thier performance.
I had a little trouble finding the right building.
It sucks being a mom with a terrible sense of direction!

*******

I played coronet for a few weeks in band.
The teacher told me I would make a great coronet player
because I had such a nice fat lip.
Yeah!
Just want every 4th grade girl wants to hear.
Idiot.
I never went back.

Were you in band in school? What did you play?

Five for Friday

1. What is your favorite movie? All of Me, Dave, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, any Disney Classic Fairy Tale, You've Got Mail, Miracle on 34th Street (the original), The Notebook, Finding Nemo, Because of Winn-Dixie (I would consider this a new classic, if you haven't seen it yet. Rent it. Its a kids movie, but a wonderful movie for all ages.)

2. What is the worst movie you have ever watched? Purple Rain , just about anything with Clint Eastwood, Chevy Chase or Adam Sandler. Scooby Doo started out bad and only got worse!

3. What was the last movie you saw in the theatre? Just posted about this earlier in the week...Failure to Launch

4. Buttered or salted popcorn? just salt, butter is to greasy. Junior Mints beat out popcorn!

5. Movie theatre or DVD? I like both. It was nice going to the movie with my husband and no kids, been ages since we had done that. Going with the kids is fun too! DVDs have the advantage of pause and being able to watch in my jammies!

**this is supposed to be a tag thing. If you want to add it to your blog, consider yourself tagged!**

frustrated

Somdays my coworkers make me crazy.

One has worked here for over 2 years. To him, the job is something to do until something better comes along. I know this because he uses the store computer for his resumes and isn's savvy enough to delete them! I think this market is way too competive to not give a dang. He has lost so many good accounts.

The other is my job share person. She does things just to get them done, whether they are right or wrong. She doesn't ask for help. It takes me (literally!) hours every Friday to straighten out all the messed up invoices and computer entries. I tell her the same things over and over. She makes the same mistakes every week. It would be much easier if she did nothing. It would take less time for me to do everything that it takes to correct mistakes. Ugh!

OK, enough of that. *heavy sigh*

Senior Breakfast

Yesterday, between church services, one of the fellowship groups hosted the annual Senior Breakfast.

The soon-to-be-graduating seniors, along with their parents, got a muffin and some fruit. Oh yeah this is a great place to say I really dont like cantalope. And when its in a fruit salad, everything tastes like cantalope.

The youth pastor gave a short little ditty about how she really does not want to let them go but she has to...sounds like a mom doesn't she?

The pastor was the "main speaker." He talked about the football and basketball teams for most of it. But alas! At the end. He said a vague reference about academics! And even (I almost choked on my muffin) mentioned forensics and my daughter by name. Wow! He knows she exists! Maybe youth pastor has gotten to him! Even if only for a fleeting moment.

Failure to Launch

My husband and I went to the movie last night. Yep we waited for it to come to the local small town theater. So It will probabaly be on video next week.

We saw Failure to Lauch. I liked it. I really did not need to see Terry Bradshaw's butt.

The last movie we went to together, without kids was...ready?...Fried Green Tomatoes way back in 1991!

How pathetic is that?

Easter candy

The half-price easter candy was calling "buy me! buy me!" this week.

So we sprung for some kisses and baked some peanut blossoms.

Been ages since I have made peanut blossoms. Nothing like a dreary day to put me in a cookie baking mood.

YUM!

golf and the community play

My son went out for golf this spring. Track did not appeal to him, so he decided to try something different. He made the JV team and he is so darn excited about it. Pretty good since the first time he golfed was less than a month ago!

He is also involved in the community play. Last night was opening night, I told him "Break a leg!" He did not appreciate that! He is a stage manager. He is not the on-stage type, very shy. He has had a blast and knowing the Community theater gives most of its proceeds back to the community in the form of scholarships he is planning ahead! Smart kid :D. The play was pretty "adult themed" and very funny! He learned some things too! Two of the women in the play called me last week, and told me not to be offended when I saw it! One said "Maybe its inappropriate for him" ahhh too late. He has been going to practice for two months now. "Men are Dogs" by Joe Simonelli. The writer even gave the director a call last night. Pretty cool!

Earth Day

Today is Earth Day.

Thanks to the late Senator Gaylord Nelson, a Wisonsonite who cared about the environment long before most Americans. Read what he wrote about Earth Day here.

This morning my kids and I did a little clean up of our own little corner of the earth. We took two pick up loads (yes full loads..we even lost some on the way up the driveway on the second trip) of junk to the dump. We bought this farm a year ago. Land is not cheap, but all the junk was free! :/

(Last week was one pick up load)

I have been more than a little discouraged about the sheer volume of work there is to do. But I have three kids that are helping (not willingly of course! haha). A few hours here and there, we are making a dent.

I keep reminding myself, it didn't get this way overnight and more than one summer of Saturdays is not unreasonable for the clean up.

Wish me luck...wanna help? :D

Mitzi and the weekend

I read several blogs semi-regularly. There has been a lot of dog talk lately. So I decided to post this picture of Mitzi. Was taken last winter. I love how the ice looks behind her. (ugh the so cool shiny ice just looks dirty and dull on here...bummer) She is a good dog. Unless you are a racoon, wood chuck, snake, neighbor's chicken, possum, or skunk... then you are a play thing and eventually a snack.

Not much new here. Sleep still is hard to come by. Complaining about it doesn't help, so I will stop.

My son had strep throat and an ear infection last week. Then an allergic reaction to the antibiotic over the weekend. At least the convenience store sells benadryl in the wee hours of Easter morning. $7.99! But he needed it, as he was narrating the Easter sunrise service. A trip to the ER would have been more than $7.99!

Now he has a rash on his chin and neck, looking like tiny white heads. hoping it is gone soon. Doesn't seem to itch or bother him. He takes it all is stride.

My hunny is busy getting the oats in. Its always a good job to have done.

daffodils

These are across our driveway. On a steep hillside, best suited for weeds. But every spring it is pretty for a week or so.

Good Friday

Thorns were His crown.

His throne, a cross.

He gave His life for us.

Take some time today to think about what He has done for you.

What a way to start my day.

I saw this on the news this morning.

His current hourly wage is about what I make at my part-time job in a year.

And a retirement package worth $400 million? I can't even fathom that.

He should thank us. We are paying for it.

ugh!

Spring break

My kids have the whole week off school this week.

Tuesday I took the day off work to go shopping. Seemed like Saturday. Oldest daughter found a prom dress she loved. It was even on sale. (that made me like it even more). Its short and chocolate brown trimmed with soft pink.

Wednesday was the most beautiful day here! Spent the entire morning at church for Sunday School prgram practice. Then most of the afternoon at the doctors office and pharmacy. My son has ear infection and sore throat. Seems as though a glitch in our rx insurance "lost" him. We ended up with only enough medication for last night, have to go back today and see if the insurance is straightened out and I can get the rest.
*footnote* My husbands benefits people at work are fantastic!

Youngest daughter went to a birthday party. They had a hotel room rented and got to swim til the wee hours.

I am working today (Thursday) to make up for Tuesday. So today seems like Friday.

Will work tomorrow too, I really won't know what day it is!

Hope everyone has a really nice Easter.

2006 NCAA Men’s Ice Hockey Champs

The Badger Men did it too. They won the National title.

The last few seconds was really exciting. BC almost tied it up. With 2 seconds left they had a shot bounce off the pipe.

Back when I was in jr high and high school, I spent quite a few Friday and Saturday nights watchning UW hockey while babysitting. It was fun to watch again.

When you say Wis-Con-Sin...You said it all!

Yeah for the UW Women's Hockey Team

The UW men play for in the Championship game on Saturday.

any bird experts?

This little white bird has been hanging around our yard the last few weeks. Spends most of his(her?) time chasing robins.

Sorry, the picture is not the greatest, but he is a jumpy little bugger. I will keep trying for a better shot.

I think its is some sort of a dove. The only real doves we normally have around here are mourning doves, and this is not a mourning dove. What do you think?

Tuesday, April 04, 2006

I never thought I would be glad to be getting 4 hours of sleep a night. But is nice compared to a week of no sleep.

My doc took me off the made-me-wanna-jump-right-out-of-my-skin med.

I am taking a week off then going to try something different.

We'll see.

The sun is finally shining here. Its been so dang damp and dreary. Maybe some drier air will help with the joint pain.

Yeah!

Thanks to eveyone thats been asking how I have been doing.
I really appreciate it.

Sure signs of spring

A tiny crocus in my front yard.

This is one of the eight beef calves we have had in the last couple week. They are so cute when they are little. Mama beef cows are very protective, they don't want anyone around their calves. They are very different than Holsteins!
