I did not watch the Olympics over the weekend
I read the results online. That takes all the fun out of them.

But I went to bed last night missing the Olympics.
Its been fun watching them the last week and a half.

Summer games are only 2 years away.
And I am sure that will be there before we know it!
Winter games are much better!

My hubby took the kids to state bowling tournament in Green Bay this weekend. Daughter J bowled well. The other two? Um. They had fun.

They got to eat at McDonald's right next to Lambeau Field.

Daughter A got home just in time to leave again for Dorian Music Festival. High School Seniors from all over Wisc, Minn, and Iowa spend a couple days at Luther College. They practice and then have a big concert. Then a long ride home in the school van. Four seniors went from our school, so its quite an honor to be closen. Somehow,I can just bet, she will come home at midnight. Wide awake with lots of things to tell.

I had sort of hoped she would be interested in Luther. I always thought it seemed like such a nice little college. Full of nice Norweigns.

February 21,1959

check out my cutie cousins in the background:)

47 years ago today my mom and dad were married.

They had 42 years together.

The last year and a half was tough, because my mom's health was gone.

But my dad said the day she died, that that time was wonderful too.

Because those were the days they spent together.

-someday I will be more computer literate and figure out how to edit out the cracks from this picture. It is my favorite pcture from their wedding day, cracks and all.

Its been quilt-snuggling weather in Wisconsin this weekend. I grabbed the one my grandmother made for me for a wedding present to watch the Olympics last night. My grandma's quilt has a story. Not a mushy, sentimental story. I am guessing it is unique.

My husband and I were married 20 years ago. From my grandma, we recieved a handmade quilt, full of love and hard work and something else. For years there was a little hard something stitched inside that quilt. It used to bug me. I would lay in bed, feeling whatever-it-was and trying to figure it out.

One day a couple years ago I had enough. I grabbed my seam ripper and started picking the stitches. Just enough to get out what had bugged me for years. Inside was this little troll. Maybe an inch tall. (with hair:2 inches). I stitched the quilt back up.

One mystery was solved. But why was that little bugger in there? Did my grandma sew him in. I really don't think she would have on purpose. My grandma was always prim and proper. Trolls weren't her thing. Did a grandchild or great-grandchild drop it while while visiting? My grandma is gone now so I can't just ask her. So the mystery remains.

The troll is in my china cabinet.

The china cabinet my grandfather made. (I never knew him, but my daughter has his curly hair)

An odd little treasure among the dishes that were hers.

I watch the Olympics on and off. My comments so far:

*Michelle Kwan: She was not healthy to begin with, She could have stayed home so we didn’t have to listen to her complain. She got to compete at Salt Lake City. She got a silver medal there. More than most amateur athletes ever get to do.

*NBC’s coverage of Michelle Kwan: Do we need a tribute? She pulled out. She did not die.
********************************************
Emily Hughes: A break for her. Go Emily!

***************************************
*Cross Country Skiing: Did you see this race last Sunday (I think) The favorite, Frode Estil, from Norway, fell at the start of the race. Two more skiers fell on him. Skis tangled. But he got up. Fixed his skis. Came back to win the silver. Awesome! That silver is more precious than gold.

***********************************

*Luge: Scary. They go faster than I drive.

*Luge on the Today Show. Matt and Al. Some people should not wear spandex.

************************************

*Skeleton: Scarier than Luge. I don’t even watch this. Makes me nervous. The kids were watching the other night. They told me one competitor was pregnant and “skeltoning.” That is just dumb.

*********************************

Curling: Its on when I get ready for work in the morning. I haven’t figured it out yet. Slide your rock . Knock the other teams out….is that all?

**************************

Lindsay Jacobellis: The DUH moment of the games! She did not win a silver. She lost the gold.

I prefer winter and fall, when you feel the bone structure of the landscape - the loneliness of it, the dead feeling of winter. Something waits beneath it, the whole story doesn't show. ~Andrew Wyeth

I just went out to stoke up the wood fire(I have to go outside and around back to get to the basement door). This tree looked so bare. So cold. It is exactly zero now, the air is still. brrr!

We never know the worth of water till the well is dry. ~Thomas Fuller, 1732

I am so guilty

Not that think its better for me.
It's just that buying a bottle of water is easy.
And I can be lazy.

Today I am turning over a new leaf!

My 18 year old nephew is having rotator cuff surgery today. Send some prayers for a successful surgery and a speedy recovery!

:o)

Update: Surgery took longer than expected. It was torn cartlidge when they got in there (as opposed to ligaments??) He got to come home last night, with a 4-6 week recovery time.

5th grade girls basketball season is over. They went out on a high note. Winning 3 of 4 games this weekend. Bringing back a plaque for being Consulation Champs. They said that meant they were the winners of the losers...lol

My daughter scored her first basket. She is actually a very good shot. Just did not see much playing time. My son had the camera, on movie mode. So YES! we have the shot recorded...it really doesnt take much to amuse me does it??

There are only 16 girls in the whole 5th grade class, 11 of them are out for BB. Well done girls.

It was a nice weekend. The weather was nice. I ran into a neighbor I had in high school. It was so nice to catch up. He has a daughter in 5th grade also. His wife was killed in a freak accident several years ago. I had not seen this man in 25 years, I was a teenager when he lived up the road, yet we talked like old friends. He worries if he is being too strict with his daughter, if he is being a good dad. I have the feeling he is a great dad, and I told him so.

My oldest two play the handbells with a bunch from school. They played at church on Sunday morning. I love to listen to the handbells. Very cool! Hope they make it to state this year. Hope more of the area churches ask them to come and play.

Oldest daughter decided on UW-LaX. Good school, our house is going to be very quiet next fall :(
