Hope everyone has a safe New Year's Eve

And

A Happy Healthy New Year

My husband lets me have all the scrapbooking supplies I can hide. ~Author Unknown

And I call myself a scrapper. I did not take one picture at Christmas. I forgot to take my camera on Christmas Eve at the inlaws. It was nice. I just enjoyed the day. I didn't get it out on Christmas morning either. My kids didn't miss it.

I have not done a LO in ages. My daughter and I made at least 25 altered pocket planners in the weeks before Christmas. So my scrap table is a disaster area. When they get back to school I will be able to straighten it up undisturbed.

I have 5 months to get her ablums in order before graduation. Yikes! 5 months is not much time, considering I have had 18 years to get behind :o

Been a while since I have done one of these

You Are Cupid

A total romantic, you're always crushing on a new reindeer.

Why You're Naughty: You've caused so much drama, all the reindeers aren't speaking to each other.

Why You're Nice: You have a knack for playing matchmaker. You even hooked Rudolph up!

If you choose a job that you like you will never have to work a day in your life.--Confucius

I am back to work after 8 days off. Nice to be back into the routine of things. It even appears I was missed. Because things are piled up. :/

J is still coughing. Not as much. When she finishes her antibiotics, I think I will run her back down to the doc for another listen to her lungs. She will be really glad when that bottle of nasty-pink stuff is empty!

I got a nice bandaid with antiotic ointment of my foot. And I laced my shoes nice and loose today.

All the super glue is finally wore off my fingers. Hot soapy dishwater did the trick.

Most of our snow has melted. We are having freezing drizzle today. Too bad it can't just stay cold. Its muddy and icy.

Christmas is a time when you get homesick - even when you're home. ~Carol Nelson

This about sums it up.
Hope everyone had a great Christmas.
I have been off work for a whole week!
Its been nice,
But no paycheck is going to bite!
Big time.

I can talk now.
Woo hoo.

My foot is looking icky.
I spilled boiling water on it while draining pasta last week.
Duh moment for me.
I could not get my wooly socks off fast enough to have me from a nasty blister.
Which broke.
And is now infected.
At least I didnt have to wear shoes much this week! :)

My dad did not know we were going to his house for Christmas.
They went someplace else :(
At least I called before we left.

MY Stephen Minister lady is not doing very well. Its against all the Stephen Minister rules to talk about our care recievers...but she is such a sweet old lady. Say a little prayer for her, please.

For unto you is born this day in the city of David A Savior, which is Christ the Lord

Wishing everyone a Blessed Christmas.

"Faith is believing in things when common sense tells you not to" ~Miracle on 34th Street

I hae seen this floating around. I have not been officailly tagged, but the kids are busy, hubby isn't home yet, so I am tagging myself

Holiday: Christmas or New Years? Christmas , no presents on New Years.

Cookies: Sugar or Gingerbread? Sugar. I think I make the best sugar cookies, even though I dread making them.

Decorations: Santa or Snowmen? I collect snowmen, but I been seeing some adorable Santas lately.

Decorations: Reindeer or Elves? Reindeer I guess.

Colors: Red or Green? Will go with green.

Colors: Gold or Silver? Either, but not both together.

Tree Topper: Star or Angel? We have an angel, she is a country-craft angel all in blue. I have had her for years.

Stocking Stuffer: Fruit or Candy? Candy. Hershey Santas are always good.

Tree: Real or Artificial? I have a fake tree. I can leave it up a month and I don't have to water it or clean up needles. Its prelit, which I love, cuz I always dreaded messing with the lights.

Cartoons: Charlie Brown or Rudolph? Both, and Santa Claus is Coming to Town and the Year Without a Santa Claus and How The Grinch Stole Christmas and...

Movie: It's a Wonderful Life or A Christmas Carol? I have only seen Its a Wonderful Life once, I thought it was a little weird. I like Muppets Christmas Carol. How come Miracle on 34th Street isn't a choice? That is my favorite! As long as its the old one with Maureen O'Hara.

Stocking Stuffer: Jewelry or Gift Card? Gift Card. So I can shop the sales after Christmas.

Christmas List: Naughty or Nice? Of course I am nice. Do you think I would confess to naughty-ness?

Drink: Egg Nog or Hot Chocolate? Hot chocolate with marshmallow fluff. I think egg nog just looks icky!

Holiday Ghost: Past, Present, or Future? Maybe the past...go back and by lots of stock in things like Cabbage Patch Kids, Trivial Pursuit, and x box.

Vacation Spot: North Pole or Winter Wonderland? Winter Wonderland sounds nice!

Holiday Song: Jingle Bells or Silver Bells? Silver Bells. I think it is one of the most beautiful Christmas songs.

Holiday Song: Silent Night or O' Holy Night? O' Holy Night. But only when someone with a really strong voice sings it, I cringe when wanna-be-singers butcher it.

More Fun: Christmas Eve or Christmas Day? Christmas Eve is magical. My kids are a little old now, but we still make reindeer feed and sprinkle it on the yard

Lights: Clear or Multi-Colored? Multi-color now, maybe when my kids are grown I will have all white.

Ornaments: Bulbs or Bows? No bows. We have a few bulbs, but mostly a mish-mash of everything...angles, snowflakes, scooby doo, Miss Bianca (from the Rescuers),santas, and of course some cows.

Tree Decor: Ribbon, Popcorn, or Garland? Garland of silver beads.

Gifts: Wrapping Paper or Gift Bags? Paper, free shiny silver that hubby brings home from work.

Better To: Give or Receive? Its really fun to shop and wrap and give someone I care about something really special. So I pick give...not that getting is bad ya know!

If you are reading this, and you want to play. Consider yourself tagged

Merry Christmas!

update on Amish children

I got an email from my former boss, who lived very close to where the children were hit last week.

4 out of 5 children were hit by the Ford
Ranger Pickup. All were taken to (local hospital). One girl (8th grader) was
treated & released that afternoon. The other 3 were transferred to Madison
by 3 special ambulances from Dubuque. The accident was Wed. The 2 boys
were released from Madison on Thurs. The 3 transferred all had head
injuries and no broken bones. The last girl, the youngest kid hit was
released Fri from Madison. She still cannot move her left side due to
swelling in her brain. After the swelling goes down she should get it back.
She cannot walk yet. All are home. We took the parents to the E/R and
stay a little with them until more family showed up. The lady driving the
Pickup (we were told) had her cruise control on & kicked it off and slid.
She hit them with the side of the Pickup. We also heard she just passed a
snow plow just before this. She & her passenger were nursing instructors
at local college.

Christmas is doing a little something extra for someone.--Charles Schulz

I just got back from taking my youngest daughter to the doctor :(
She has ear infection and lungs full of crud.

Poor kid!

The meds are nasty. Since she is allergic to most every antibiotic there is, she is having to take nasty-tasting-sulfa-stuff.

Say a little prayer for my J.

He who has not Christmas in his heart will never find it under a tree. ~Roy L. Smith

I find this extrmely funny tonight...NyQuil has that effect on me.

I survived work with my on-again-off-again voice. Not many calls today. I love when a farmer calls and says "Can I talk to a man?" No. They think cuz I am female I am clueless. (ok sometimes I am) They are usually floored when I can tell them what their problem is over the phone. I have been doing this for 5 years now. And it does not take a lot of common sense to check the fuses first. Of course if the farmer wants to pay a service call and mileage...I will be glad to send a man to check the fuse.

Two oldest kids had their Winter Concert tonight. I love how they call it the Winter Concert, but its all Christmas music...surprisingly a lot of Christmas hymms. They combine the chorus and band into one concert. Makes for a long night and "bleacher butt." I took my camera and got some video. Technology is so cool...especaially when I finally give in and buy it! I am such a proud mommy!

How many days til Christmas? I started my cards today. They may end up being Happy New Year Cards...or Valentine's Cards??

A bad cold wouldn't be so annoying if it weren't for the advice of our friends. ~Kin Hubbard

I knew I could catch it. The girls have both been sick. I was hoping I would avoid it. But this morning I woke up with a miserable cold. Fever, aches, runny nose, and no voice. I always lose my voice when I get a cold. I can squeak tho! They guys at work get way too much enjoyment when I am like this. They call just to make me answer the phone. Its ok. I get them back. When they need directions to a farm, they get the scenic route.

Maybe this cold is God's way of telling me to not do a lot of Christmas baking. That was my original plan for the day. Now I might take a nap instead. No one wants cookies with germs...right??

Youngest daughter was Mary in the Sunday School program. We started getting ready, the conversation went something like this:

Mary
: I am ready!
Mom : Change your shoes.

Mary
: I like these shoes.
Mom: Mary did not wear tennis shoes.

Mary
: Joseph is wearing tennis shoes.
Mom: He wouldn't if I was his mom

Mary
knows you can't win an argument with mom. Mom always wins :)

Five minutes later:

Mary
: Where is my costume?
Mom: Didn't you leave it at practice?

Mary
Nope. I brought it home. Remember, Dad picked me up.
Mom: Which car did you have?

Mary
: (sister's)
Mom: Crap. We have to leave early. Stop up at the nursing home to look in her car for costume. (This is when I was thinking I was so glad I brought the costume home to wash and iron it)

Thankfully it was in a nice little heap, in the backseat of her car. I was smart enough to make an extra key for eveyone's car and keep the spares in my purse. So we didnt have to interrupt suppertime at the home.

Mary was fantastic! Joseph was bored, he said with his chin in his hands the whole time. Baby Jesus was adorable...perfect timing...as the second verse of "Away in the Manger" started...But little Lord Jesus, no crying He makes...yep, thats when the dad had to come rescue the babe from the manger!

My son was the sound guy for the show. And oldest daughter got there when it was almost over. Just in time for Jesus's Birthday Cake (a tradition in our church). She was still in her scrubs. One little angel came up and said "Are you a doctor?" What a cutie :)

Are you willing to forget what you have done for other people, and to remember what other people have done for you ... to remember the weakness and loneliness of people who are growing old ... Are you willing to believe that love is the strongest thing in the world ... stronger than hate, stronger than evil, stronger than death... Then you can keep Christmas! But you can never keep it alone.--Henry van Dyke

Minutes are worth more than money. Spend them wisely.--Thomas P. Murphy

Got home from taking my youngest daughter to a doctor appointment and basketball practice, fixed up a few altered pocket calendars, Here are three of them.

Christmas is not a date. It is a state of mind.--Mary Ellen Chase

Christmas keeps getting closer. I did get a few things accomplished the past few days. The kids had a snow day of Wednesday. We got some coookies baked and some more dough stirred up. Oldest daughter finished 3 of her 15 gifts make. I haven't started mine.

Yesterday school was back to normal so hubby and I went shopping. I am closer to done now which is a good feeling. I mailed a little package to my Stephen Minster lady. (Totally against SM rules to do that, but that is one rule I think is dumb. I think its nice to buy her a little something.)I hope to get down to see her next week.

I got the supplies to make my Christmas cards today. Yep. I am nuts. I will not get Christmas cards made! Maybe one or two. Everyone else will get the family Christmas letter.

I talked to my dad last night. We talked about my brothers planning Christmas for a day my family could not be there. It makes me mad, but it also makes me very sad. It was all I could do not to cry. He said he would see what he could do. Then I said the unthinkable! "You can all come here on New Year's Day." What if they say yes? I cant get ready for that. I need more time or more help. Can I build a house in 15 days? Probably not, since I would have to win the lottery first. lol

Prayers please

Please say a prayer for 4 local Amish children. They were hit by a pickup truck yesterday while walking to school :(. One is in serious condition at a local hospital, the other three were taken to a Madison hospital. The radio report this morning said the woman driving lost control and slid into the children.

This is just a month after the conviction of an Illinios man, who last fall, intentionally smashed his truck into an buggy carrying an Amish family. Killing two children and the pregnant mother. (We came upon that shortly after it happened and I will never forget what I saw that day)

Please pray for our little Amish community, and our whole town. We have had so many tragedies the past few years.

Tuesday, December 13, 2005

Our forecast for tomorrow is lots of sloppy messy snow. 3 to 8 inches. (That's a nice big range to cover the weatherman's butt!)

The kids are hoping for a snow day.

That would be nice. I won't have to worry about getting them out of the driveway.

Maybe I can get them to help finish decorating.

And bake some cookies.

This morning I bought 20 calendar planners to alter. Oldest daughter will be doing some!

Ahhh. The Christmas Season with help, what a novel idea!

I even burned a CD of Christmas songs today. I can listen while taling the car to the mechanic....grrrr

ho!ho!ho!

Inside every older person is a younger person wondering what happened. ~Jennifer Yane

Thanks for the birthday wishes. It was a quiet day. The oldest two kids went shopping with youth group from church. My daughter bought me some yummy smelling hand lotion and my son got me a bag of cherry cordial Hershey Kisses (the bag was open and there were not too many left, but he needs them more than I do!). Earlier in the day he had given me an ornament, and my youngest daughter made me a snowman.

We had chocolate cake with pepto-bismal-pink frosting.

We took the youngest daughter shopping with us. She found lots of things to buy for herself! We bought three gifts. Only three! I have so much to do before Christmas!

My cousin called me and sang Happy Birthday to me. It was great. We talked for quite a while :) She is more than a cousin, she is a dear friend. Her husband is a sweetie too. I got a super nice e-card from my friend Ron, he is so good to remember! I got a card from my friend MaryEllen, she is a hoot and makes me laugh. I got one from my minister too which floored me, because I am not a football player! LOL

**Oh and another Happy Birthday to me. I got my property tax bill. I looked it it, I thought this isnt so bad. THen I looked at the next, and the next, etc, etc. Each section thing is done as a separate bill. Holy crap! The total was bad.. Good thing I didn't spend much $ shopping!

:o)

Sunday, December 11, 2005

I can boil 4.69 US ounces of water with 41 candles.

I shamelessly stole this idea from Kenny's blog.

Today is my birthday. Yesterday, daughter and my friend were trying to convince me I was going to be 40 today. Ok I will be 40 again! :)

Here are some of my birthday facts:

*I am 14,975 days old.
*I am the equivalent of a dog that is 5.86105675146771 years old. (You're still chasing cats!
*Your birthstone is Blue Zircon. Zircon helps one be more at peace with oneself.

On this day in history:

*In 1994 Russia invaded Chechnya.
*In 1984 the Unibomber killed his first victim.
*In 1941 Germany declared war on the U.S.
not a good day for history!

I share my birthday with:
*Rita Moreno
*John Kerry
*Brenda Lee

And I am really 41 today.

The Year Without a Santa Claus

The Year Without a Santa Claus is my favorite of all the Christmas Classics. I have started to watch it twice. And both times I got interrupted at the best part. Before Christmas I want to see the whole thing through.

You can take this quiz about the show. I got them all right. Surprised? lol

I made new kitchen curtains for winter. I am on a Peanuts kick. I can leave these up past Christmas :)

Connie

I made this little altered pocket calendar for my cousin. She has been so sick and she deserves a little something.

My extended family is not getting together for Christmas this year. :( I am going to miss it. Too many conflicts and busy schedules this time of year.

Maybe we should make that Memorial Weekend Get-Together a Christmas celebration. My mom always said Christmas was not December 25th, it was the day we could all be together.

5 finger prayer

1. Your thumb is nearest you. So begin your prayers by praying
for those closest to you. They are the easiest to remember. To pray for our
loved ones is, as C. S. Lewis once said, a "sweet duty."

2. The next finger is the pointing finger. Pray for those who
teach, instruct and heal. This includes teachers, doctors, and ministers.
They need support and wisdom in pointing others in the right direction.
Keep
them in your prayers.

3. The next finger is the tallest finger. It reminds us of our
leaders. Pray for the president, leaders in business and industry, and
administrators. These people shape our nation and guide public opinion.
They
need God's guidance.

4. The fourth finger is our ring finger. Surprising to many is
the fact that this is our weakest finger; as any piano teacher will
testify.
It should remind us to pray for those who are weak, in trouble or in pain.
They need your prayers day and night. You cannot pray too much for them.

5. And lastly comes our little finger; the smallest finger of
all which is where we should place ourselves in relation to God and others.
As the Bible says, "The least shall be the greatest among you." Your pinkie
should remind you to pray for yourself. By the time you have prayed for the
other four groups, your own needs will be put into proper perspective and
you will be able to pray for yourself more effectively.

Another busy Saturday. Kids have league bowling, then a 4-H Christmas Party and packing goodie bags for the nursing home, then the oldest off to work...its that time of year!

Herbie doesn't like to make toys!

I am such a sap when it comes to the old Christmas Classics.
Wednesday night, I was chatting online with a friend, he told me Rudolph was on. I had to go watch it. (Thanks Jerry!). And yep, you guessed it, I know all the words to all the songs...probably all the dialogue too!

I see this one was made in 1964. Such a good year! (I am a 1964 myself)

I look forward to ABC Family Channels 25 days of Christmas

I am just a kid at heart at Christmas time. Besides, when its 4 degrees outside, its good to be inside!

Thursday, December 01, 2005

I cannot believe its December already!
Where did the year go?
When I am going to do my Chirstmas shopping?
And what can I buy for my kids?
Oldest daughter wants to quit her job. That would be the best Christmas present for her! She loves it. She loves the residents. One old guy asks her every night if she will give him a ride home.
But its way too much. Two or three evenings a week soon turned into weekends too. And holidays. Why does she have to work all of them? She comes home at 9pm and starts in on college-prep english homework and calc. My brain could not deal with that when I wasn't tired. I don't know how she does it.
I guess she doesn't. Migranes are catching up to her. Its time to let the job go.
She is going to miss the paycheck. But money isn't everything.

She needs time to be a kid. To hang out with her friends. And babysit (she misses that the most). And too keep her grades up. The colleges will quit calling if her grades suffer. She actually has a really good chance at a full ride scholarship at one Iowa school.

It's always snowing somewhere!
