Nothing but heaven itself is better than a friend who is really a friend. ~Plautus

This is the card I made for my friend that got hurt. I hope he finds the humor in the bandaid and tylenol. :)

He had a fall at work. Seriously hurt his elbow. I will spare you the details (he didn't spare me) of tendons and doctors, surgeons that just freeze things but didn't put him under. Now, my friend is a tough guy. So when he said it really hurt, I believe him. REALLY!

Neither rain or snow.... maybe. But severed tendons should have stopped the mail...or at least let someone else finish the route

I always loved running - it was something you could do by yourself, and under your own power. You could go in any direction, fast or slow as you wanted, fighting the wind if you felt like it, seeking out new sights just on the strength of your feet and the courage of your lungs.
Jesse Owens

I dont like to post pictures of my kids, but I took this one yesterday of my son. He loves the hilly courses and it was a cool evening to run. His team perfect scored. :)

The most dangerous people are the ignorant. ~Henry Ward Beecher

Rain is grace; rain is the sky condescending to the earth; without rain, there would be no life. ~John Updike

Some questions I can answer on a rainy day:

My dad, a couple weeks ago. We got together at his new house.

3. Which family member do you most resemble?
My dad

5. Do you wear deodorant?
Well, yeah. Doesn't everyone?

6. Do you 'clean up nice'?
I would hope so

7. When was the last time you tripped and fell?
I tripped over a pallet at work one day. Checked around to see who saw me fall before I noticed I hurt my foot.

8. Where was the last place you slept besides your home?
Hotel in the Twin Cities, we took the kids for a mini-vacation last fall.

9. What are you listening to right now?
The rain and "I Can Only Imagine" Jeff Carsons version

10. Have you ever started an uncontrollable fire?
No, weird question eh?

11. Ever run out of gas on the road?
No, and hope I never do!

12. Would you rather cut the grass or rake the leaves?
Rake, that means its fall, I love fall

13. Your name spelled backwards.
adnil

14. What is the last thing you downloaded onto your computer?
Google Earth, its been fun playing with it!

did anyone notice there is no #1?

I got a call from my good friend,Denny today. He fell at work and messed up his elbow. Just him telling me about the tendons hanging out made me woozy. He said they didn't even put him under to "fix it" OUCH. He will be off work for a few weeks. Please say a prayer for him, as taking it easy is not something he does often. I wish him a speedy and complete recovery. I made him a card too. Its got tylenol and a "Clifford" bandaid tucked in a little pocket.

What's up with Faith Hill? Her hair is dirty blonde now and she must be in a hippy time warp.

Runners just do it - they run for the finish line even if someone else has reached it first. ~Author Unknown

The CC supper was a success. Hoards of starving teenagers were fed! lol It was a fun time. I got to know one of the other mom's. She makes some fantastic lasgana and she asked for my Choc chop cookie recipe...the secret is on the back of the bag if you must know!

As for Saturday's relays. The rain held off for most of the races. I think only the last 5 or 6 races were in the rain. The varsity boys got 1st place, JV boys 4th (my son has his best time on that home course, he loves the hills). Varsity girls got 7th and JV girls placed 8th. The girls are really stuggling this year. The senior girls which make up most of the team carry the memories of their lost teammates, it has to be hard for them. Its hard for we parents to not have those two running along too. The girls are missed. They are forever young :(

Stressed spelled backwards is desserts. Coincidence? I think not! ~Author Unknown

This afternoon, I and another "CC mom" are feeding the team and coaches supper. Its one of those "What was I thinking when I voluntered for this!" moments yesterday when I had to buy the groceries. cha-ching!

I think it is going to be fun tho. Lot of Lasagna and manacott, garlic bread, veggies and dip, and fresh fruit, Choc chip cookies (I baked 4 batches yesterday!), rice Krispie bars and strawberry shortcake. Gee I am getting hungry. I hope thats enough carbs for them.

My son reminded me" "There are only 40 of us" ...only 40...haha! and "Dont make anything weird, mom." I have an hour between the time I get off work and the time they finish with practice. We did our prep work. We will be ready. I had to promise no pictures. Darn...lol

:o)

Never drive faster than your guardian angel can fly. ~Author Unknown

I read this this morning and found it very interesting. Since gas is almost $3 a gallon here, any little bit helps. I know we are a hazard if we don't keep up with traffic, but if everyone would slow down, what a difference it would make!

John Dowd of Sanford C. Bernstein & Co, told a Senate panel this month that "if, as a country, we were to obey speed limits for the next two months, we would probably conserve more fuel than will be lost by the refinery outages. Reducing speeds from 70 m.p.h. to 60 m.p.h., for example, improves fuel efficiency by 15 percent. If Americans want to know what they can do to limit gasoline price inflation, the answer is simple: slow down."

The phrase "working mother" is redundant. ~Jane Sellman

I have to say: I am loving the time I have to be domestic. Even though I complain about housework, its nice to do things for my family. Today I made curtains for my kitchen window. Lots of "Snoopys" jumping in piles of leaves. Very fall like. I would share a picture but the ugly light fixture about the window might scare you! Here is the fabric.

I could have lived with out the hairy spider that was living on the window sill. Yuck. Are tarantulas native to Wisconsin? lol

Friendship isn't a big thing - it's a million little things. ~Author Unknown

I just got the nicest surprise. A phone call from an old friend.

We talked about our jobs and the weather, our kids and nothing in particular.

It made my day.

Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference. ~Winston Churchill

I feel like I should write in this blog. Nothing exciting happening here tho! So consider yourself warned: yawning ahead!

My youngest daughter drew me the cutest cow to hang over my desk. Its black and white...those are the best (If fact the day I got married my grandma cornered my groom and made sure he milked Holsteins!). It also has pink ears and a neon pink udder. moo.

My son has a cross country meet today. One of these meets I am going to wear his pedometer. I feel like I put in the full 3.1 miles, but I am sure I don't come close. Of course they walk the course first, then jog it, them run the race, and after the race: cool down...so 3.1 X 4 = may more miles than mom walks! Not to mention all the miles he and his friends put on scouting the girls from the other teams.

Oldest daughter is going to see McBeth tomorrow. Cross your fingers for nice weather, its an outdoor theater.

I got my 257 prints in the mail yesterday. I need to get down to some serious scrapping. But there are still things to do outside. And inside. I am unmotivated to scrap. I have been this way before. I think its because there are so many other things that have to be done too. I should be home full time ...ya think?

I almost quit my job yesterday. I was so darn ticked. I cant tho, I would miss it...my co-workers and "my" farmers. Gotta love the ones that call just to talk. :) My hunny should be jealous...but then again he knows most of them!

I would be missing my teeny tiny paycheck too...so I wont quit...yet. I was pretty pissed when they took away my vacation and holiday pay. Jerks. Of course the boss built a new mansion, he has to make those payments somehow!

When people go to work, they shouldn't have to leave their hearts at home. ~Betty Bender

Philosophy is questions that may never be answered. Religion is answers that may never be questioned. ~Author Unknown

I used to love to go to church. To "recharge my batteries" after a long week of stress and life. I love to sing (even though I am not a good singer) the old songs and new ones. To pray. Together.

But its football season. Our current pastor is a huge football fan. He loves the Packers and the Badgers and the local high school team. Which would not be a bad team if he were not obsessed with football. He has us praying for a win. Praying for each player. Sure, I like to see the kids do well, but to hear the old pastor rant you would think every kid on the other team is a heathen. What a jerk.

Last year he had a whole sermon about one kid. A lineman. "He is my hero" My oldest daughter told me this kid comes to school drunk, throws chairs when he doesn't get his way. He is 17. Not my hero, and thankfully not my kids hero either. I wish our pastor could see past sports.

It got harder and harder to sit through church every Sunday, and make my kids sit through it too. So we dont.

My kids. Honor students. Play in the band. My son is out for Cross Country (pastor has never been to a meet), he is not the #1 runner. But he tries. And he loves it. He loves to run, hates the competition, likes the girls on the team, likes the girls on the other team......
My oldest is out for forenscis. Went all the way to state. She did great on her SATs. And spends her evenings working at the local nursing home.

We are very proud of our kids. But the kids not on the football team never get mentioned. What about the kids like that? The ones that do well in school? The kids that go to school everyday and try but dont get A's. Or the kid that do go out for sports and sit on the bench? The kids that go on mission trips and get up at 5 am to do the Easter Sunrise service, because he "doesnt like getting up so early"

So our pastor is the most narrow-minded hypocrite I ever knew. He has been told by the pastor parrish committee countless times. But he gets defensive and angry, threatens to leave. Oh please. Let him go! Before he scares everyone alway from church.

Basketball season is just as bad. He follows the boys team only. He doesnt like girls sports.

I already told my husband, if I die and he is still pastor. I dont want him doing my funeral. I need to put that in writing......

The tragedy of old age is not that one is old, but that one is young. ~Oscar Wilde

I have mentioned this before, one of my co workers brings his wife along with him to work. She has alzheimers.

When I first started working there (about five years ago) she would tell me to stay away from her husband. She always thought people were looking in the windows and out to get her. She was so scared :( Her husband would tell her over and over there was no one there. But to her, those images were so real. So I said to her: No one will hurt you when you are here with us. She smiled and from that day on she was my buddy. She called me Jenny. She sits in my office. Follows me around…so when I got potty I gotta walk fast to lose her…lol! She doesn’t talk anymore. It’s a horrible rotten disease.

Tuesday I had left a piece of paper and a pencil on the other desk. Sometimes she likes to doodle. When I left that afternoon, I saw the paper.

I miss me.
I miss me....
Over and over in shaking handwriting.

I cried.

Tom always tells me he wishes I had know her “when she was right” She was beautiful.

She still is.
I learn a lot at work.
And that doesn’t mean teat dip and pulsators

Boredom flourishes too, when you feel safe. It's a symptom of security. ~Eugene Ionesco

Today is my day off. I love my days off! So far I have 4 loads of clothes on the line, one in the washer and about 80 more to go! I picked up the living room, went for a walk. Its only 10:30. I am bored. (My youngest daughter would say only boring people are bored) I cant scrap cuz our upstairs is so stinking hot, even tho today is cooler.

Chip the cat is amusing me. He is watching me through the window and doing his darndest (is that a word?) to press his nose through the glass and come inside.

Tried to call a friend, but just got the machine. I am not leaving a message cuz I dont think his wife likes that :0 I'm ooing to call an eldery church lady later. I might go visit her tomorrow. She lives in assisted living and doesn't get out much. She does have lots of doctor appoinments so I always call ahead.

Last time I was down to see her, she said "You know what I miss most?
I said no,
She said "The dollar store. How silly is that? I miss wandering around finding little treasures." Awwww. So.....yep!.....Yesterday after school my daughter and I went on a treasure hunt. We found some little fingertip towels, tan with little scarecrows on them. Hope she likes them.

I am so looking forward change

Never be afraid to sit awhile and think. ~Lorraine Hansberry, A Raisin in the Sun

I don't know what happened to my post yesterday. I hope everyone took a few minutes to remember those affected by the terrorist attacks.

Haven't posted for a few days. I have been uninspired. Maybe its cuz its so darm hot. We have had temperatures in the 90s and very high humidity. Of course probably no worse than the rest of summer, but I don't like hot. The leaves are changing and some are falling. It looks like fall, but doesn't feel like it.

I bought some apples last night. Looking forward to making apple cake that my mom used to make. Yum all cinnamon-y and crunchy on top. Hope we don't eat them all before the house cools off.

After all the sadness and devestation of the past week. I feel a need to move on, to try to get back to normal.(Even though those in the Gulf Coast will never be normal again.) I have voiced my political opinions. Not that anyone listens! But I feel better for venting.

My kids are back in school.

My oldest daughter has an after school job working in the kitchen at the nursing home. After only 3 days she loves the residents. She recognizes many from church. And her great-grandma is there. Although Grandma M doesnt know her :(
She cant decide which senior pictures she likes best...which is fine with me, the longer we wait the longer I have to pay for them.

Cross Country has started. Poor son gets blisters from his size 13 spikes. Guess we need to get 14s! Holy smokes! I hope he stops growing soon. He has a meet again tonight. His race last Saturday had over 300 kids. What a mob. I think the girls JV race had more.

Yougest daughter loves her 5th teacher. (except Mrs L calls her by her sister's name). We are collecting bugs and leaves now. So far we have a cricket and a mosquito.

We went school shopping the other day. I spent $465 on shoes! Yikes! And over $300 at walmart. $316 for driver's ed. I think I need to win the lottery. Good thing we did not build our house. Between school costs and the outrageous gas prices, house payments AND farm payments would have been a struggle.

I am learning not to look around while stopped at stop light. On the way home from shopping the kid in the car to our left was yacking on his cell phone, squeezing his zits and smoking...all that the same time. While the guy on our right was spitting is chew-yick into a pop can. EWWWWW. I was so glad to get back to Wisconsin.

I had to share this

On a lighter note...guess we are all in the same boat.

"... we're going to hitch up our britches and get this done."

Missippi's Gov. Haley Barbour's quote

I cannot imagine the devestation and loss of life from Katrina.

The pictures and stories on the news are heartbreaking.

I am sad for all those who have lost so much, loved ones, and those who still have no answers.

I am angered by stories looting, shooting, reports of rapes and beatings.

I am digusted by the administration. It took four days to get organization, food, and water to the victims of Katrina. Four days! Pathetic. One MSN reporter summed it up perfectly. He said: The adminstration did not care about these people before the hurricane. And they probably wont care when they are dead.

No one seems to have any answers to the question "Why did it take so long?" There are a few lame excuses. But they do not change the fact. Our Goverment messed up. Big time. It cost too many lives.

I have prayers of strength for those affected. May God comfort them. Faith sustain them. And hope for the future.
