Let's see..what's happening in the news...

Michael Jackson- I know he was a big entertainer, but enough already with the media coverage.

Sarah Palin - yah, well, if I never heard her speak again it would be too soon. What's with all the fishing stories?

Steven McNair - I am not going to say he got what he deserved, because no one deserves that. But he has a wife and 4 kids, what was he thinking with a 20 year old girl friend?

Al Franken - geesh Minnesota. Its about time. Only took 8 months.

Gov. Mark Sanford- give a whole new meaning to "hiking the Appliacin trail." Hmm, a cheat and a liar. Duh.

How come weekends go so fast?

And we did nothing for the July 4th weekend.
Wait, we did watch fireworks on tv.
Oh how lame is that?
Yup, VERY lame.
But home doesn't have mosquitos :D
and I hate the traffic and driving at night.
So I was the bad mommy.
We can go to the fireworks at fun fest in August.

Here is my music Monday
(click on the red "here" if you want to see a good summer song)

gee, my weekend was almost as boring as this Monday post!

Happy 4th of July

Be safe out there!

Thursday, July 02, 2009

I had my first visit to the pain clinic yesterday.

We really were pushing it to get to LaCrosse by 8am, we weren't too late.
I spent nearly and hour with the PA,
So nice compared to the 5 or 10 minutes with my pcp.
We talked about surgery.
He thought I should think in terms of postponing it, not ruling it out. ok - I can buy that.
After examing me and reviewing xrays and MRI, his first suggestion was cortisone injections.
I am a little leary about them, didn't really have great success with them in the past.
I had copies of my records from Dr Miller, so said he could see where I was coming from on that.
I won't rule them out in the future, but would like to put that option on the back burner.
(my dad gets them in his knee and gets pain relief for 4 or 5 months from one shot.)

We talked for quite a while about meds. I had a whole ziplock bag of prescriptions along for the ride, none of which I actually take! I have to learn not to be afraid of pain killers, and that just because something is OTC that is safe, or the right thing for me. Reminded me what "fun" aleve was for me ( a word of advice, when a medical professional tells you to take much more that the recommmended dose question it.). I need to accept the fact that narcotics are not scary, as long as I am careful. I should keep a diary of pain and meds; what I am taking and when, what helps and what doesn't, etc. Perocet can be my friend! Although its supposed to make you drowsy, it makes me jumpy.

He said there is more to this then just the ruptured disc.
He said I have some degree of shoulder separation.

He wondered why I hadn't done PT or traction, exactly what my chiropractor said.
I said maybe PT is a good place for me to start.
In the back of my mind, I have always thought, if I could strengthen my shoulder and upper back, maybe that would help. But wondered of what I have been doing on my own was helping or hurting.
A big plus:I can do this at my local hospital. :)
I have my first PT session next week.
The big minus...the cost. PT is expensive and our insurance pays very little.
(Which is dumb IMO. I would think it would be cost effective. It could save them so much in the long run if I can avoid surgery, more xrays, medications, etc. )

He said I should keep doing chiropractic care.
Unless PT has a real problem with it, but he didn't forsee that.
I will check back with him in a 3-4 weeks. He wanted to see me, but is willing to work with me over the phone somewhat. ;)

Hmm, I know there is more, but I can't think of it right now.

So I worked on my resume. cover letter, application.

Stressed about it for three sleepless night.

I threw it in the trash.

If I stress about a job I don't even have...why the heck would I want it?

I feel so much better!

:o)

Since I never got around to 5 on Friday, how about 7 on Saturday?

1. The weather has been like mid-August this week. Hot, humid, pretty icky if you ask me.

2. The new was marked by new of the deaths of David Carridine, Ed McMahan, Farrah Fawcett, and Micheal Jackson. All so different, but all part of my childhood. In junior high I think I babysat every weekend night. That's when I loved the Tonight Show and Badger hockey. (that was before cable and dish network)

3. Star Spangled Celebration turned out to be a bust for us this year. Scott and I went last year and enjoyed it so much, this years line up...no one really struck me as "must see." Besides, I can't see spending that much on tickets when my medical bills have been unreal these past few months. Jill and Aaron volunteered a couple days, but Aaron just didn't feel well and came home early. Aaron said Kenny Rodgers was pretty full of himself and very rude.

4. Have you checked out Alice.com yet? I think Alice is going to spoil me.

5. I have been thinking about applying for a new job. Kind of wonder if it would be a good fit for me, but not sure how much of a chance I will have getting it anyway. Guess I will see what I can come up with for a resume and see what happens.

6. I was not surprise by the big Jon & Kate announcement. But its too bad, a family falling apart in the public eye. I loved watching the show when the kids were little, just to see how they coped with day to day activities with 8 kids. Lately it was just watching the family get free stuff. TLC has halted production. Good. Maybe someone will offer them some free counseling.

7. The church supper was a good time. It was literally a parade of little old ladies. :)

Happy Weekend all!

You know how I often complain about our health insurance..

..you know...like all the time...they did something good last week.

Since I am considered a "chronic pain sufferer" (is sufferer a real word?)
They have assigned me a health support specialist.
An RN with a direct 800# so I can always talk to the same person and don't have to start over, giving the whole history each time I call.
(I had access to this before, but would never get the same person twice)
Gee, and right now I don't have any questions!
bummer!

At church yesterday, part of John's sermon was devoted to what went on at annual conference.
He is dismayed how things are "improving"
Do churches really need starbucks and gyms?
He said something about how "we are so busy marketing and getting somewhere, I am worried we will forget where we came from."
Exactly!
No wonder I like it there so much.
It doesn't just feel like the church I grew up in.
It IS the church I grew up in.
The location is different, the faces are not the same.
But the feeling is.

:)
And we have a cafeteria supper on Wednesday night.
I got volunteered to make salads (I don't mind)
and even got another call to ask if I would like to work.
:)

Five on Friday

1. Jon & Kate. Do you watch? I still do, it's awful, but I keep tuning in. Maybe they should call it Jon or Kate + 8 now? I don't know... for years she has treated that man like a child and he never stood up to her; slapping him, not letting him finish a sentence, belittling him in public - Man when she would scream at him (hellllooo) from across a store or the beach or the crayola factory...why can she not walk to him and talk to him?? Did you see her smack Emeril with the spatula when he defended Jon? I have thought for a long time Kate needs some help (and I don't mean a babysitter, I mean for her mental health...I sell dairy equipment and I can see she has problems). When the show first started, I admired her for how she seemed to keep things together. But as things come to light. What was I thinking??

2. Summer has arrived weather-wise. Super humid. Heavy rains last night. Our driveway washed. Our roof leaked where it never leaked before. And, thank God, my camping family came home to sleep as there were tornado warnings posted half the night. AND it sucks to have curly hair when its so sticky.

3. Its been almost a month since I have been to the doctor. (eye doctor doesn't count) or the pharmacy! Woo Hoo! I should go to the chiropractor again tho, and I have an appointment at a pain clinic in a few weeks...but for now...woo hoo!
4. Did you see that woman convicted again of downloading music? $1.92 million! Holy smokes. There is no free music online, it costs you one way or another. Most people just get crappy viruses.
5. Our local paper and radio station have gotten in the habit of reporting victims names in the news lately. Is it just me? Especially when minors are involved. A few weeks ago a man held a gun to a 17 year old's head...and HER name was in the paper. Good Lord, this is a small town - gossip flies - everyone knows everything anyway. But that girl has been though enough.
(oh my. I did rant today. maybe I should post more often!)
happy weekend.
happy father's day to all the dads out there!
